Cold and Wet on CNN

Tuesday, 25 January 2000

It's started snowing in earnest -- four to six inches, enough to shut down LaGuardia, not enough to shut down the other big airports. Temperatures only the the thirties, public schools still open for the Regents exams, lots of disappointed kids.

None of which really affects me. It's a pain to trudge through slush on the way to and from the subway stations, but the nice thing about commuting underground is that surface weather doesn't mean much. I said as much to the CNN reporter and camerman who were in Union Square asking passers-by about how the snow had affected their commutes. It looked like they were taping for later use, rather than broadcasting live, and I don't know if I was interesting enough for my footage to get used, but maybe millions of people will get to see me say that I didn't suffer any serious delays, haven't experienced any electrical outages, and that while I don't enjoy the snow, I put up with it.

I'm not typical. Lots of my fellow Crossoverians live in the suburbs and commute by car or bus, so the office is sparsely populated today.
