Chow Fun

Sunday, 2 January 2000

Today was a glorious day -- 60°F! Much too nice to spend indoors, so it was back to Chinatown for me. The downstairs Wo Hop was even more crowded than yesterday, so I tried eating upstairs. There wasn't any congee listed on the menu, so instead of my usual meal of shrimp congee and two egg rolls, I decided to try a small wonton-and-egg-drop soup and a shrimp curry chow fun. The soup was nice, but the chow fun made me wish I'd asked after the congee.

Then off to the real goal of the trip: Pearl Paint. Up to the rarely-visited (by me) 5th floor, the crafts department, for some Fimo polymer clay. I've had an impulse for a while to fiddle around with this stuff, and I've found some gorgeous work on the Web to inspire me. Then down to the 3rd floor to pick up a new sketch pad/journal/idea book.

I've started W. Daniel Hillis's The Pattern on the Stone, a book about the basic ideas behind computing. Pretty good so far. I've encountered some of this stuff before; I don't know how comprehensible the first chapter would be to anyone to whom Boolean logic was a brand-new idea.
