Happy New Millennium (Observed)!

Saturday, 1 January 2000

Well, civilization doesn't seem to have ended. I just did a quick search for electric generators on eBay, but I don't know enough about what they normally cost to be able to judge whether they're especially cheap now. I want to find some Y2K survivalists and have me a good gloat.

It was a quiet New Year's for me. I did a laundry and some last-minute shopping, then called Chris and told her I'd be joining her and her mother. I rented All the President's Men and Dick on the way. We finished with the movies about 11:50 PM, and then turned on the TV to watch the ball drop at Tines Square, which is after all the official turnover of the year, no matter what other time zones may think.

Today I woke up nice and late, showered, and then headed off to Chinatown for some breakfast and to see if Pearl Paint was open. It wasn't, and Wo Hop was crowded, so I built a meal out of pastries from a Chinese bakery, an Asian pear from a sidewalk fruit vendor, and some almond frothy tea and fried chicken chunks from Saint's Alp Teahouse. Yummy.

Stopped at Blockbuster on the way home to rent a video, but the lines were longer than I've ever seen them.

I'm editing this directly on my server via telnet, using emacs because I want to learn it. I started it from Chris's place last night. This PHP setup makes it a lot easier to add new entries from any place that has a 'net connection.

Now how do I save in emacs...?
