Turns out Michael Moore is fat. Also, he dresses like a slob. Surprised?

No, I wasn’t either. But apparently this is big news at Instapundit. Glenn Reynolds writes:

OVERWEIGHT, BADLY-DRESSED millionaire Michael Moore is getting hit hard in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. (Earth's hemispheres, not his).

Apparently criticizing Moore for his distorting facts is old hat; far better to poke fun at his appearance, as if we were back in the third grade.

Actually, calling Moore “Chunkybutt” is one of the more coherent of Damian Penny’s criticisms. He also takes issue with Moore’s attempts to get wider bookstore distribution of his latest book, and ... and I can’t figure out what his rant about guns amounts to. Is he claiming that Moore does in fact own a gun? If so, could he maybe link to something about it? He wrote an earlier piece claiming that Moore’s a member of the NRA, but admitted that doesn’t mean Moore owns a gun. (I’ve met gunless NRA members.) And worse yet, Moore drinks bottled water, and a brand Damian dislikes! Have better grounds for opprobrium ever been known?

Damian seems reasonable compared to Tim Blair, who complains that Moore pretends to be poor, as if not spending as much as you possibly can on expensive clothing is a sign of poverty, and as if the wealthy never pinch pennies. Also, apparently one is not allowed to criticize atheletes unless one is a smilar athlete oneself. Hey, let’s adopt a similar standard for politicians — criticism of Al Gore will be acceptable only from people who have a major party’s nomination for the presidency under their belts.

(And having nagged Damian about not providing a link about the gun, now I’m not providing a link to back up my claim about Moore “distorting facts”. I was thinking about something I’d read last week about how Moore lied recently about his support for Nader in 2000, but for the life of me I couldn’t find the link again, and Google was no help. It was in one of the weblogs Patrick links to. What’s worse, I’ve found that Ted Barlow has beaten me to it on the matter of these particular anti-Moore rants.)
